Fine-grained legal entity annotation: A case study on the Brazilian Supreme Court

The exploration of legal documents in the Brazilian Judiciary context lacks reliable annotated corpus to support the development of new Natural Language Process (NLP) applications. Therefore, this paper presents a step toward exploring legal decisions with Named Entity Recognition (NER) in the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) context. We aim to present a case study on the fine-grained annotation task of legal decisions, performed by law students as annotators where two levels of nested legal entities were annotated. Nested entities mapped in a preliminary study composed of four coarser legal named entities and twenty-four nested ones (fine-grained). The final result is a corpus of 594 decisions published by the STF annotated by the 76 law students, those with the highest average inter-annotator agreement score. We also present two baselines for NER based on Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) and Bidirectional Long-Short Term Memory Networks (BiLSTMs). This corpus is the first of its kind, the most extensive corpus known in Portuguese dedicated for legal named entity recognition, open and available to better support further research studies in a similar context.  相似文献

清末商人鲍廷爵喜藏古书,他集藏书、刊书、刻书、售书于一身,收集书籍涵盖经史子集,并建有藏书楼抱芳阁,藏有各种精本、善本,著有《抱芳阁书目》。鲍氏景慕鲍廷博,集毕生精力,刻《后知不足斋丛书》,版式循＂知不足斋＂旧例,凡佛道、巫妄、志怪、因果报应,以及荒诞不经的著作一概不收,选书精当,收录经说、小学、金石、目录之书。虽然鲍氏并无不世之功,但其抱芳阁发展始末仍可称为近代出版书籍转型和文化风气转型的一个典型个案,亦可反映清朝末年书业发展之概况。  相似文献

This is the ninth annual price study based on the "Basic List of Veterinary Medical Serials, 2nd edition." The basic list consists of three parts: core veterinary titles; an adjunct list of serials in biomedical and life sciences; and a list of relevant abstract and index titles. Prices are supplied by The Faxon Company. The indexing base is 1983. In the twelve year period from 1983-1994 the average price of titles in the core + adjunct lists rose from $100.37 to $305.69. The price index rose 204.55 percentage points, an average increase per year of 18.60%. The average price of litles in the core list rose from $69.07 to $205.82. The price index in his category rose 197.97 percentage points, an average of 18% per year. The average price of the 85 titles on the adjunct core list was $131.30 in 1983 and $404.39 in 1994. The price index in this category rose 207.98 percentage points, an average of 18.91 % per year. The 22 selected abstract and index titles in his same twelve year period increased in average price from $618.74 to $1,465.50. The index in this category rose 136.85% for an average annual increase of only 12.44%, considerably less than the other lists.  相似文献

The Treaty of Fort Laramie with Sioux, etc., 1851 was an important transaction between a number of American Indian tribes and the federal government. However, because of administrative mishandling by the latter, there has been sustained but unwarranted confusion over whether the treaty was a valid one. Uncertainty led to the use of a brief note in the Statutes at Large, at 11 Stat. 749, instead of the treaty's full text as the law of the land. The Statutes cue, however, has been misused frequently in the opinions of various jurisdictions, even to the point of deploying it to reference specific quotations from the full document—that is, to material certainly taken from an alternative source. This article investigates the most significant citation errors to 11 Stat. 749, and uses them to discuss improvements to applications of legal writing.  相似文献
